Telephone Support Services

Needing someone to talk to?  Here are a couple of telephone services that may be able to help.

Red Cross

Red Cross’s Telecross is a telephone reassurance service for people who live alone, are elderly or frail, have a disability, housebound and/or recovering from illness or accident.  Friendly volunteers call you first thing in the morning to ensure you are safe and well.  These calls take place 365 days a year. This program is classed as a social service and funded by the Commonwealth Home Support Program and MyAgedCare.  Telecross can be contacted on 1300 885 698.

St John’s

Similar to Telecross, St John’s are able to provide regular ‘security’ calls.  They also provide respite calls and friendship calls.  St John can be contacted on 1300 785 646.

Friendsline

Friendsline is funded by the Department of Social Services to provide a safe place for anyone to call and have a chat.  The helpline is operated by friendly volunteers and all conversations remain anonymous.

The telephone supportline is available 10am-8pm seven days a week.  They also provide an online chat service 4pm-7:30pm on Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays.

UnitingCare’s Connection Program

At times, many of us find ourselves drifting apart from others and may grow lonely or isolated.  UnitingCare Queensland’s Connection Program aims to improve wellbeing and connectedness among isolated people.  We are listeners trained in making a connection through empathy.

We offer regular connection through weekly phone calls with your own telephone supporter.  You can talk about what is troubling you or simply chat about how your week has been.  These phone calls can be at a time and day of your choosing.

We believe in the power of connection and the difference it can make in people’s lives. Contact the Seniors Enquiry Line on 1300 135 500 if you would like to be referred to the Connection Program.

If you would like support to find the right support for you, please contact the Seniors Enquiry Line on 1300 135 500.
