Mental Health Supports
The uncertainty of the last couple of years have impacted everyone. In Queensland, we are fortunate to have many supports available to us.
1300 MH Call
1300 MH CALL (1300 642 255) is a confidential mental health telephone triage service that provides the first point of contact to public mental health services to Queenslanders. 1300 MH CALL is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will link to the caller’s nearest Queensland Public Mental Health service.
If you feel that you may be in need of mental health support and have never accessed a mental health service before, please contact your general practitioner or phone our mental health access line 1300 MH CALL (1300 642 255).
Head to Health
Head to Health can help you find digital mental health services from some of Australia’s most trusted mental health organisations.
Provided by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, Head to Health brings together apps, online programs, online forums, and phone services, as well as a range of digital information resources.
Whether you are trying to improve your own sense of wellbeing, looking for help with something that is bothering you, or helping someone you care about—Head to Health is a good place to start.
When you call the national Head to Health network number 1800 595 212 (free call), you will be asked to enter your postcode and you will then be transferred to a Head to Health service navigator in your area.
The Head to Health phone line can be accessed by consumers, their families, carers, as well as GPs, service providers and other health professionals. The Head to Health team will ask you a range of questions to connect with the most appropriate service to meet your needs or assist the person you’re supporting.
The Head to Health phone line will operate 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Callers after hours will have the option to leave a message and receive a call back the next business day. Please note that Head to Health is not a crisis service.
Lifeline
If you need someone to speak with, Lifeline has Crisis Supporters available on 24/7. Lifeline can be contacted on 13 11 14 or you can text 0477 13 11 14.
13YARN
13 YARN is Australia’s first – and only – national Indigenous-led crisis hotline. 13 YARN is a 24/7 national telephone helpline which has been codesigned by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people specifically to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
If you, or someone you know are feeling worried or no good, we encourage you to connect with 13 YARN on 13 92 76 and talk with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander crisis supporter 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
UnitingCare’s Connection Program
At times, we may find ourselves drifting apart from others and may begin to feel lonely or isolated. To try and address this need, UnitingCare’s Connection Program aims to improve wellbeing and connectedness through weekly phone calls with the same supporter. You can talk about what is troubling you or simply chat about how your week has been. All members of the Connection Program are trained in mental health and are there to listen empathetically without judgement.
We believe in the power of connection and the difference it can make in people’s lives. Referrals can be made through the Seniors Enquiry Line on 1300 135 500.
Open Arms
Open Arms provides free and confidential counselling to anyone who has served at least one day in the ADF, and their families. Open Arms operates a 24/7 crisis support helpline by calling 1800 011 046.
