Needing someone to talk to? Here are a couple of telephone services that may be able to help.
Red Cross
Red Cross’s Telecross is a telephone reassurance service for people who live alone, are elderly or frail, have a disability, housebound and/or recovering from illness or accident. Friendly volunteers call you first thing in the morning to ensure you are safe and well. These calls take place 365 days a year. This program is classed as a social service and funded by the Commonwealth Home Support Program and MyAgedCare. Telecross can be contacted on 1300 885 698.
St John’s
Similar to Telecross, St John’s are able to provide regular ‘security’ calls. They also provide respite calls and friendship calls. St John can be contacted on 1300 785 646.
Friendline
FriendLine is for anyone who needs to reconnect or just wants a chat. All conversations with FriendLine are anonymous and their friendly volunteers are ready for a yarn and to share a story or two.
To request a call, all you need to do is provide your phone number via their website. They also provide an online chat service on Mondays between 5pm – 8pm and Wednesdays: 1pm – 4pm AEST.
If you would like support to find the right support for you, please contact the Seniors Enquiry Line on 1300 135 500.
