University of the Third Age – Redlands
U3A is a self help education movement which caters for persons in the ‘third age’ and for those who have retired, promoting the concept of studying simply for the joy of learning. It is not a formal University, and does not offer formal qualifications nor set academic qualifications as a pre requisite for entry. There are no exams. Classes are held in many areas and also in private homes. The service plays a vital role in improving the quality of life of retired persons. The courses are run by volunteer tutors and include: Armchair Travel and Tourism, Art Appreciation, Book Discussion, Botany Walk, Candlewicking, Card Making, Chess, Computer and Internet Creative Writing and Discussion, Cryptic Crosswords, Drama, Playreading and Poetry, English Country Dancing, Enjoyment of Classical Music, Feldenkrais Awareness through Movement, Flower Arranging, French Conversation, French Language, Fun with Music, German (for Beginners and Second Class), Italian Language, Japanese Language, Life in Australia, Mah-jongg, Meditation, Musical Productions, Patchwork and Quilling, Practical Art, Psychology, Rambling in the Redlands, Scrabble, Solo Cards, Introduction to Yoga, Cycling, Dining, Gardening and Political Science, Choir, Aerobics, Aqua Aerobics, Spanish, Mosaics, Ballroom and Line Dancing, History, Backgammon.
