University of the Third Age Inc – Sunshine Coast
U3A is a self help education movement which caters for persons in the ‘third age’ and for those who have retired, promoting the concept of studying simply for the joy of learning. It is not a formal University, and does not offer formal qualifications nor set academic qualifications as a prerequisite for entry. Classes are held in many areas and also in private homes. The service plays a vital role in improving the quality of life of retired persons. The courses are run by volunteer tutors and include; Aquacise, Tennis Coaching, Choir, Gentle Stretch Exercise, French elementary and Immediate, Geographers World, Play Reading, German, Book Group, Beginners Swimming, Italian, Swimming New and adv, Various Computer courses, Discussion Group, Calligraphy, Reading Together, Merry Musicians and Recorder, Philosophy, First Aid, Indoor Bowls, Book Group, Bird Watching, Drawing and Sketching, Play with Clay, Multicraft, Genealogy, u3a Latinists, History of Jazz, Spanish, Italian Conversation, Table Tennis, Scrabble, Line Dancing, The Encoring Mind, Philosophy workshop, Music Makers Band, Creative Writing, Yoga, Porcelain Doll Making, Croquet, Armchair Travel, Classical World of Music, Introduction to Latin, Ikebana (Flower Arranging), Modern Poetry, Social Swimming, Solo, Cards, Cryptic Crossword, Daily Life- Spiritual Practice, Fitness Program, Astronomy, Dine In Club, Working with Paper, Successful Investment, The Art Group, Square Dancing, Meditation, Woodwork. Classes held at Buderim, Caloundra, Currimundi, Warana, Wurtulla, Coolum, Kawana, Buddina, Minyama, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland, Nambour, Woombye, Maleny and the Range, and the University of the Sunshine Coast. Sunshine Coast U3A also runs a Science and the Humanities (SATH) course which runs for a 12 month period, and may cover the following areas:- Great Painters, History of the Sunshine Coast, Computers and the Internet, Classical Music, Comparative Religions, Education, Electrical Power, The Theory of Flight, The History of Rome, Mathematics in History, Nutrition, Psychology, Physiology, Herbs in Everyday Life, Great Railways, Great Battles of the World, Biology Around Us, A History of Australian Poetry, Creationism, Science, Non-Science, Climate Change and Global Warming, Do We Need A Pied Piper, etc.
