Lifeline – Brisbane – Telephone Counselling Training
Lifeline Brisbane conducts a fee based training program for people who wish to volunteer as Crisis Counsellors with the 24 hour Crisis Telephone Counselling Service. A nine week intensive training program is available to people who have prior experience in the areas of counselling and welfare or are studying towards a related degree. For those people without relevant experience, a fourteen week course is also conducted. Both courses cover topics the include self awareness, micro counselling skills and specific issues. Selection criteria for both courses include a willingness to listen and to work within the ethical boundaries of Lifeline and the Crisis Counselling Model, compassion and a non judgemental attitude. Additionally it is important that people are not currently experiencing major loss or difficulties in their life and that they have time to maintain a commitment to working regularly on the phones. Weekend and after hours volunteers are particularly in demand.
