Excelsior Club Inc – Maryborough
The Excelsior Club Maryborough Inc. is a charitable organisation whose major objective is the alleviation of social isolation for the elderly. Excelsior meets one day per week for an average of 46 weeks of the year. The Club provides meeting facilities and free door to door transport for members who are unable to access club facilities by public or other facilities, (does not cover those with severe disabilities who need taxi services). The Club provides personal encouragement, board games, entertainment, music, community singing, reading for visually handicapped, shared meals, information sessions, (group and personal as requested) and encourages small friendship groups of compatible members for out of meetings mutual support. Periodic activities include bus trips to places of interest, annual church parades (non-denominational), celebration of national and local days of importance, home and hospital visits. The Club participates in health promotion programs and also promotes aspects of personal and kitchen hygiene, diet and lifestyle. It encourages members to make medical and other appointments on club days to facilitate assistance. The Excelsior Club gives relief in emergencies, assists with personal administration as requested, liaises with a law firm to assist members with legal matters at a nominal cost, cooperates with Government initiatives to assist the elderly and assists members with care arrangements when requested. It also encourages spiritual wellbeing. To ensure the financial viability of Excelsior, members pay a nominal fee each week.
