Centacare – Family and Community Services
Centacare Family and Community Services reflects the community, government and church working together to respond to local and community need. Care and Concern groups are parish based voluntary groups. They provide assistance in a practical, organised way to people in their local community who are in need of short term assistance. Centacare offers training and development programs to assist in the establishment, maintenance and support of services including visitation, emergency home help, transport and handyperson service. Child Care Services – 3 long day care centres, 2 family day care schemes and approximately 80 outside school hours care services. A Community Development Worker is located in the South Burnett. With their parish – community management committees, these workers assist the community to respond to identified need, maximising church, government and community resources. An Indigenous Community Development Worker is based at the Brisbane Branch. This program aims to coordinate and facilitate appropriate cultural responses and strategies to address issues identified in association with the indigenous community in the Brisbane metropolitan area. Centacare Family and Community Services can provide details on localised services. Indigenous Grandparent Support Group with monthly BBQ’s and Support Meeting Indigenous Yarning Art/Craft Group. Meets at Centacare fortnightly Indigenous Cookery Group. Good Tucker meets monthly. We cook and eat together and share recipes.
