Neighbourhood Centre Week

We at the Seniors Enquiry Line show appreciation to all the community centres throughout Queensland.

Thank you for all the support you provide to your communities.

What is Neighbourhood Centre Week?

There are over 1000 neighbourhood centres across Australia.  To highlight the amazing work that these centres provide, Australia will be celebrating Neighbourhood Centre Week throug 9th-15th May 2022.  This year’s theme is ‘Building resilience by bringing people together’.

What do Neighbourhood Centres do?

Neighbourhood Centres are a consistent support throughout their communities.  As they are operated by members of their communities, they are able to respond quickly to their communities needs.  They provide a location for outreach services to meet with their communities.  Through natural disasters, they are often evacuation sites and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, they have provided a massive amount of support to their communities.

Every centre or community house is different.  Just a few supports provided may include:

  • financial relief, food parcels or free fruit and vegetables
  • social groups or support groups
  • community gardens
  • basic technology training or support
  • conversational English classes
  • guest speakers and information sessions

You can contact the Seniors Enquiry Line on 1300 135 500 to find your local neighbourhood centre or you can search here.
